Protect Maine Families!
Urge your legislator to vote NO on LD 227!
Activists in Augusta are trying to convince Maine people that LD 227 is just a benign bill to protect healthcare workers, but it's not!
LD 227 makes transgender care and abortion a legal right under the law. While most of our friends in Europe are placing significant limitations on transgender surgeries and therapies for children, Maine is doubling down – elevating it above other medical care by creating a legal right in Maine statute to all transgender and abortion services.
LD 227 is opposed by local law enforcement. It’s confusing and unclear how law enforcement should or should not change their normal course of business. With the intense scrutiny they are already under, it is bound to have a chilling effect on any intervention that involves children in the trans community.
LD 227 is crafted with ambiguous language that could be manipulated to protect human traffickers and child predators. The proponents of LD 227 have repeatedly assured us that this bill is ONLY to protect Maine health care providers who operate within the laws of this state. But the bill is full of broad, ambiguous language – 21 pages to be exact – that could be interpreted and manipulated by bad actors to protect human traffickers and child predators.
LD 227 creates an accountability-free zone for doctors performing complex gender reassignment surgeries on children. Gender reassignment surgery is complex, and the outcome is not guaranteed. If a child is injured during a gender reassignment surgery, the new legal and procedural hurdles in this bill could make it much harder for patients and families to seek compensation for the harm caused to their child. There is no reason why families whose children undergo gender reassignment surgery should have fewer rights and protections than families whose children have other kinds of surgery.
LD 227 elevates a “standard of care” developed by trans activists with a history of experimental surgery and therapies on children. The bill cites WPATH as the preeminent “standard of care” that healthcare providers in Maine should use when they are conducting gender reassignment surgeries and therapies. But WPATH isn’t just a group of disinterested medical professionals, they are trans activists with an agenda. Recent revelations shined a light on their lack of true medical evidence and their willingness to experiment on vulnerable children.
